Emplas was recently involved in a social housing project in Haslemere, supplying and installing more than 200 windows and doors to 45 much-needed homes in the region.
The site at Wey Hill in Haslemere stood empty for 13 years before developer Abri set about meeting the need for low-cost housing by providing high-quality, affordable homes to rent.
The Wey Hill development will also include modern facilities for its residents, including a private basement car park, electric charging points and green amenity space. The new homes are set within walking distance of Haslemere station, putting a London commute within easy reach.
The apartments were designed to complement and enhance the local area, so main contractor Drew Smith turned to Emplas for the supply and installation of 201 windows and doors, including white casement windows that achieved a U-value of 1.2W/m2K.
These were made using the energy efficient Optima system from Profile 22, and factory glazed using high-performance Planitherm One from Saint-Gobain Glass. This guaranteed that they met the revised Part L requirements of the Building Regulations, while helping residents keep energy bills to a minimum.
“Key to any social housing project today is the minimal cost to running the properties,” explained Stanley Richardson, Commercial Sales Manager “And high on the list of priorities is ensuring that all building components are energy efficient and comfortably meet the building regs.
“Our factory glazed windows are made to the highest standards on the latest machinery, and carefully protected before being delivered to our team on site on stillages. This way, we have complete control of the process, reducing any room for error and maximising the energy efficiency of the build.
“It is also why we are the go-to solution for many commercial developers.” Jack Mattison, Contracts Manager at Drew Smith, concludes: “Emplas helped us deliver a very logistically challenging site where access and storage were very limited due to the proximity to the railway and surrounding roads. The installation went smoothly over the duration of the project and the client was very happy with the end product received”
