Investors In People accreditation

Investors In People accreditation

Emplas has achieved Investors In People (IIP) status across the entire Emplas Group in the UK.

It means EmplasPadiham GlassAcorn Aluminium and T&K Home Improvements join only a handful of building products manufacturers and home improvement companies to hold the high-profile accreditation.

The award represents a significant achievement and recognition of the investment that Emplas is making in its teams but also infrastructure and service offer.

Alison Markham, Group HR Director, said the successful assessment was all the more significant because it had been achieved right across the Group – and on its very first attempt.

Want a career in manufacturing but short on experience? No problem.

We have some incredibly experienced and talented people in our team and always welcome approaches from experienced practitioners with a track record for success.

But we also work with lots of school and college leavers at the start of their career; people who are returning to work after career breaks or people simply changing direction and who want to do something different.

Apprenticeships training

We currently have 15-apprenticeships running within our business. We’re also an apprenticeships Trailblazer, working with other leading companies and training provider, GFTS, to develop a dedicated apprenticeship for the fenestration sector.

The Emplas Valuing our Leaders programme

Our training programme extends far further and right across our business through our dedicated leaders training scheme.

Valuing our Leaders, which was developed by Emplas in partnership with private training provider Beyond Theory has a clearly defined focus on how the upskilling of our leadership teams translates into efficiencies, enhanced product quality and better customer service

A total of 40 members of our factory team have gone through training, reinforcing and building the connection between what they do and customer service and quality.

Meet some of the team.

Stanley Richardson, Commercial Sales Manager

Having joined Emplas’ award-winning marketing team as a Sales and Marketing Apprentice in July 2017, aged just 17, Stanley Richardson, completed an apprenticeship with us in Sales and Marketing in 2019, giving him an NVQ Level 3 and Technical Certificate.

This gave him a foundation in business administration, customer relationship management and field sales, providing the basis for a move into sales and assuming responsibility for his own accounts in autumn 2019.

This ultimately led Stan to a new role in commercial sales where his sector expertise, drive and determination has made him an invaluable member of the team, becoming Commercial Sales Manager in November 2020.

Clodagh Driscoll, Head of Customer Services

Clodagh joined Emplas at the very beginning of her working career. Starting out in the marketing team as a new business and sales assistant, she worked through to 2014, when she went on maternity leave to have her first child. Coming back part-time, this time to the Customer Support Team, she took a second career break to have her second child before returning to Emplas on as a Senior Customer Coordinator at the beginning of 2017.

Quickly progressing to Team Leader in late 2017, Clodagh was promoted to Head of Customer Services in June 2018, heading up a 15-strong team.

Always willing to pitch in to help, and having progressed from entry-level to a senior role, Clodagh is widely respected by all those who come into contact with her – including customers!

Dawid Hajduk , Operations Support Leader

Dawid, joined Emplas straight from school in 2018 as an operations apprentice. Now Operations Support Leader, his rise through the ranks has been meteoric, assuming key responsibilities for production.

Dawid impressed in the role from the start. His willingness to learn combined with an analytical and considered approach to problem solving was immediately evident.

In recognition of the massive contribution that Dawid made in going the extra mile during COVID, he was promoted to Production Planner in April 2021, and Operations Support Leader in October.

In recognition of Dawid’s hard work and as a reflection of his desire to learn, we’ve committed to support his further development through a degree course in business management with online university, Arden.

Dan Mason, Maintenance and Operations Engineering Apprentice

Dan was already part of the Emplas team when he joined our three-year Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship.

Created as part of the Apprenticeships Standard, we offer a number of apprenticeships built around a dedicated training programme specific to the job, creating a role-specific standard and an assessment plan.

Dan, who before signing up to the programme was part of our production team, had demonstrated a great understanding of machinery maintenance and electrical engineering.

Qualifying in 2023, Dan has fine-tuned not only our machinery but also his skills as part of this on-the-job apprenticeship.

Micky Braines, Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, Emplas and former Royal Engineer

Micky, our Environmental Health & Safety Manager, joined the Royal Engineers straight from college qualifying as a Telecommunications Engineer and serving as a Combat Signaller. This included installing telecommunications equipment in tanks, as well as training soldiers on how to operate them.

Micky joined Emplas in 2016 as a Quality Control Supervisor. Now Environmental and Health & Safety Manager following a recent promotion he has key responsibilities for health and safety and is also spearheading our programme to minimise the impact our operations have on the environment.

Alongside the day job, he’s currently training for a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Supporting UK Armed forces personnel

We’re also a signatory of  the Armed Forces Covenant, committing to support the Armed Forces, former servicemen and women, and their families.

The Government scheme has been developed to make sure current and ex-servicemen and women aren’t disadvantaged by the service that they offer to their country, building a link between civilian and military communities.

In addition to committing to the Covenant, we’ve also committed to the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) as a Bronze Award holder.

This includes a pledge to promote an armed-forces-friendly culture, including employing reservists, ex-service personnel, cadet instructors and the partners of current service personnel.
